The new world tendency has shown the convenience to build stadiums in downtown areas. This has prove to be the best alternative for access and exit of audiences (a “hub” or network center is created instead of a funnel), and as driving time is shorter from any point in the city, the access alternatives to the stadium are better and generally they have a great public transport infrastructure.

Monterrey International Stadium location:

  • Has a bigger access North-South and East- West.
  • Reduces transportation from any point in the city.
  • Takes advantage of the city public transportation infrastructure.
  • Takes advantage of actual parking lot infrastructure in the Fundidora zone, as well as the opportunity that Santa Catarina River offers to create a system of remote parking lots that are connected to a street car, just like the ones in Disney parks.
  • It is integrated to the Cintermex Convention Center, Arena Monterrey, Fundidora Park, Oven 3, España Park, Río Park, and Canal Santa Lucía, which connects the stadium to the Macroplaza and Mexican History Museums, MUNE, Metropolitano and MARCO creating of the most relevant complex in the world for a Target City.
  • Adds a heliport and a small bus station for visiting teams.

Some examples of stadiums built in the last decade have shown the convenience of having them in downtown areas due that this has helped to revitalize the cities where they have been built, such as; Baltimore, Denver, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Cardiff, Melbourne, Brisbane, Lisbon, and San Francisco.
